The Parish Primary School is Matthew Gibney Catholic Primary School and commenced in 1991 to provide a quality education for the Catholic children in the High Wycombe and surrounding areas. With Jesus at its centre, the school has sought to focus on the development of each individual within the school community and to build positive and healthy relationships amongst all its members.

The aim at MGCPS has always been to develop within each member of our community a sense of their individual importance and value.

At MGCPS our parents’ support is vital and much encouraged. Our parents play an important role in supporting the staff to ensure the children receive the best possible opportunity to reach their potential.

The school is a single stream school from 3yr Kindy to Year 6.

School History
The School is named after Bishop Matthew Gibney who was the third Bishop of Perth. He made a huge contribution towards the development of educational facilities in Western Australia and travelled far and wide throughout WA. Matthew Gibney also started “The Record” newspaper.

In 1990, Fr Pat Turner (the then Parish Priest) decided that the Parish needed a Catholic Primary School. With Archbishop Foley’s help, an Interim Board was put together to get the school up and running. The building began at the end of September 1990 and was ready to open in 1991.

Mr Greg Wyss was the Foundation Principal of the school from 1990-1994.

The school was built in several stages from 1990 to 1999, catering for students from Kindergarten to Year 7. In 2008 Pre-Kindy (3 year old) classes commenced and as from 2010, the Year 7 class was moved to local Catholic High Schools.

Since its inception there has been a wonderful community spirit.
