St Vincent De Paul

WHAT IS INVOLVED

Individually and together as members we offer and use our gifts to:

  • Support, walk alongside and empower those who experience disadvantage and injustice, so that they may fulfil their human potential, be witness to the restoration of their human dignity, and help in the alleviation of pain and suffering;

  • Provide practical assistance to address the immediate needs of those we serve;

  • Bring them unconditional love, serving without discrimination;

  • Respect other faith beliefs at all times; and

  • Work with other organizations to help the Society's mission.

Members of the St Vincent de Paul Society meet fortnightly on Tuesdays in the Parish Hall at 7:30pm for their meeting to share their experiences, reflect on their service and monitor and discuss local needs.

THERE ARE THREE CATEGORIES OF MEMBERSHIP:

CONFERENCE MEMBERS
Those who belong to the grassroots groups within the Society known as Conferences. They live their faith in action through the spirit of Christian Charity (all Conference members must be 18+ and attain a Police Clearance)

ASSOCIATE MEMBERS
Those who are committed to the ethos, mission, aims and objectives of the Society and who assist the work of the Society, but who do not attend Conference meetings.

VOLUNTEER MEMBERS
Those who respect the ethos, mission, aims and objectives of the Society and who volunteer in any of the Society's works.

WHO ARE ST VINCENT DE PAUL MEMBERS?
The vocation of the Societies members, who are called Vincentian's, is to follow Christ through service to those in need and so bear witness to His compassionate and liberating love. Members show their commitment through person to person contact.

THE BENEFITS OF BECOMING A MEMBER
Society members are passionate about helping those in need in their local area. We service the suburbs of Forrestfield, High Wycombe, Maida Vale and Wattle Grove.

They attend training workshops, discussion forums and can partake in various committees which assist in preparing them for their Vincentian responsibilities. Members work together in groups know as 'Conferences'.

Conferences are usually attached to parishes, schools, universities, social groups, workplaces or groups of individuals from a local area.

The Society members live their faith in action by visiting people in their homes or in the community, providing friendship and support to those they serve and to each other.

ABOUT ST VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY
The Society is a lay Catholic organization that aspires to live the Gospel message by serving Christ in the poor, with love, respect, justice, hope and joy, by working to shape a more just and compassionate society.

We have more than 3,500 incredibly dedicated members and volunteers and each year we assist over 40, 000 Western Australian. On average our call centre receives 200 calls daily from individuals seeking emergency relief assistance.

In addition to emergency relief support, we also have specialised support services and programs, including retail and distribution centre operations, a recovery focussed mental health service, services to prevent or alleviate homelessness, programs for young people, financial counselling and refugee and migrant services.

Regional and remote areas are serviced from support centres and they see close to 100 people each day.

For I was hungry and you gave me food. I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink. I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me. (Matthew 25: 35-36)
